AFrance expressed on Thursday its dissatisfaction with Israel’s decision to deport the detained French-Palestinian lawyer Salah Hammouri without charging him, stressing that he should be able to “live a normal life in Jerusalem.”

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Al-Hamouri was born in Jerusalem and lives there, while the Israeli Ministry of Interior announced that the lawyer would be released on Friday in order to be “quickly” deported to France.

The French Ministry said that “his wife and children should be able to go to him there,” in Jerusalem, while stressing that “France is following the situation... closely and at the highest level,” and recalling that President Emmanuel Macron addressed his case during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Yair. Lapid.

In response to a question from Agence France-Presse about the possibility of postponing or even canceling his deportation, the French Foreign Ministry was unable to give an immediate response on Thursday.

For its part, the Israeli Ministry of Interior insists that the French-Palestinian lawyer is a “terrorist” affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. It is an organization classified by Israel and the European Union as “terrorist.”
