The occupation media revealed a detailed draft prepared by Knesset member Amit Halevy of the Likud party to spatially divide Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews, so that the perimeter of the Qibli prayer hall in the south is allocated to Muslims, while the Dome of the Rock up to the northern border of the mosque is allocated to Jews.
Halevy’s draft is based on an Islamic redefinition of Al-Aqsa Mosque as exclusively the building of the tribal prayer hall, and claims that the Muslims’ sanctification of everything that the mosque’s wall was surrounded by is a “conspiracy to deprive the Jews of their sanctuary,” considering that “the Islamic sanctuary is that mosque built exclusively in the south, and the rest of the place is not sacred.” Among Muslims,” according to the proposed draft’s claim.
This is the third plan to attempt to divide Al-Aqsa. The first was in 2008 and focused on the southwestern side, and the second was in 2013 and focused on the eastern side of the mosque.
In 2008, the occupation plan to cut off the southwestern region of Al-Aqsa failed thanks to the organized ribat and the flag terraces, while the project to cut off the eastern square and the Bab al-Rahma prayer hall failed in the face of popular will in the rehabilitation campaigns and the donation of Bab al-Rahma in 2019.
Despite the two previous failures, the occupier raises the ceiling of his aggression and the area he aspires to seize. Will his dream come true or will popular will dispel his illusion again?
