Today, Tuesday, the Israeli occupation municipality removed the dome and crescent from the minaret of the Jerusalem Citadel Mosque in Bab al-Khalil in occupied Jerusalem, with the aim of Judaizing the place and removing Islamic landmarks.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that they discovered this morning that the dome and crescent of the minaret of the Jerusalem Citadel, which had been surrounded by restoration scaffolding for half a year, had disappeared.
The Jerusalem Citadel is located near Bab al-Khalil - one of the gates of the Jerusalem Wall - and its current construction dates back to the Ayyubid, Mamluk and Ottoman periods. The occupation targeted it with artillery and bullets in the years 1948 and 1967.
The so-called “Jerusalem History Museum” had erected iron scaffolding around the minaret since last June, claiming to be carrying out restoration work. The top of the minaret of the Jerusalem Citadel is almost the highest in the Old City, as it was built in 1310 AD, above the Citadel Mosque, and was later renovated during the Ottoman era.
It is noteworthy that the call to prayer has not been raised from the minaret of the Jerusalem Citadel since the occupation in 1967, which means that the call to prayer has not been raised from it since then, as part of a Judaization project that turned the Citadel into a museum, and cancelled prayers in its two mosques, and named it “David’s Citadel.”
