The qualifiers for the “Qur’anic Family” competition were concluded in the city of Jerusalem, after hundreds of families competed in a competition that is the first of its kind in memorizing the Holy Quran at the city level, and the honoring closing ceremony will be held at the beginning of next December.
The competition was launched at the beginning of last September, organized by the Zaid bin Thabit Center for Teaching and Memorizing the Holy Qur’an in Jerusalem, and sponsored by the “Al-Quds Al-Bawsala” media network.
In the highest numbers in years at the level of Qur’an competitions in Jerusalem, more than 600 Jerusalemites participated in the competition, males and females aged 5 years and above.
Children dominated the contestants, but the elderly also came forward to recite, including the largest Jerusalemite participant, Hayat Atiya Ghazawi (72 years old), from the Al-Thawri neighborhood, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, in addition to the participation of nuclear and extended families with all their members, such as the Natsheh, Al-Rajabi, and Al-Shuwaiki families, in which dozens participated. It was noteworthy that three brothers from the Odeh family from the town of Silwan participated, just a week after the death of their father Ibrahim, who had also registered with his wife in the competition.
It is noteworthy that the “Qur’anic Family” competition included 4 stages, the first between the ages of 5-7 years (memorizing Surat Al-Mulk), the second between 8-11 years (memorizing Surat Al-Waqi’ah), the third between 12-14 years (memorizing Surat Al-Isra), and the fourth from Age 15 and above (memorizing Surat Al-An'am).
The number of top winners reached 114 contestants - who obtained a score of 100% -, while the number of outstanding contestants exceeded 222 - who obtained a score of 90% or above -, where the top winners from each stage will receive financial prizes ranging from 100 to 150 dollars.
The “Qur’anic Family” shield will also be presented to the family with the largest number of children participating in the competition.
