The Al-Maqdisi Stork Youth Team - Burj Al-Luqluq - has set off to participate in the Donosti Cup 2024 in San Sebastian, Spain.
The Palestinian delegation consists of 22 individuals, including 18 young players. The Palestinian team participates in Group B of 15, and the players are looking forward to achieving victory to qualify for the second round and honor Palestinian Jerusalemite football.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burj Al-Luqluq Association, Nasser Ghaith, said that the participation of the youth team comes to confirm the right of the Palestinians to exist and live a free and dignified life in light of the hideous aggression launched by the military occupation machine on the Gaza Strip, and for the team to be a voice for the people of Palestine and its people.
For his part, the Executive Director of Burj Al-Luqluq Association, Montaser Edkidek, stressed that the team represents the spirit of steadfastness and hope of the Palestinian people, and its presence in the tournament is not only for sports competition, but also to be an ambassador for peace and freedom, and to convey Palestine’s message to the world.
The team's coach, Nihad Zaghir, explained the importance of sports as a means of strengthening cultural ties and understanding between peoples.
Stressing that sports are “a bridge that connects cultures and peoples, and participation in the tournament is an affirmation of our existence and our insistence on our rights.”
The team's captain and goalkeeper, Zaid Al-Zughair, considered that this international experience opens new horizons for his team and gives it the opportunity to represent Palestine in international forums, and confirms that Palestinian youth are capable of achieving success despite all challenges.
