Today, Monday, the Israeli occupation authorities renewed the travel ban against Jerusalemite activist Nihad Zaghir.

Jerusalemite sources reported that the occupation authorities extended the travel ban against Jerusalemite activist Hajj Nihad Zaghir for a month.

The sources pointed out that the extension for the activist Zaghir is subject to another extension for a period of six months, according to the order prohibiting exit due to Al-Zaghir Al-Aqsa’s activity for years.

The occupation authorities released Zaghir at the beginning of last May after delaying his release date for days. They later arrested him several times, interrogated him, and released him each time after hours.

Zaghir was arrested on June 5, 2017, during his return to Jerusalem after performing Umrah rituals. The occupation authorities accused him of being active in what they called the “Al-Aqsa Mosque Youth” organization, and sentenced him to 35 months in prison and a fine of 10,000 shekels.

Immediately upon his release, Zaghir faced a policy of deportation from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the city of Jerusalem, where he was directly removed from the city for 15 days. He also later faced a policy of continuous travel ban for nearly 9 months.

Zaghir works as a guide for pilgrims to Jerusalem in Mecca, and is considered one of the active and influential Palestinian figures in the Jerusalem street, and has a wide social network.

Hajj Zaghir is married and the father of four children. He is considered one of the most prominent social and sporting figures in the occupied city of Jerusalem. He embraces a large number of the emerging generation through education, sports and education, which has put him under the constant surveillance of the occupation, specifically with regard to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
