The Finance Committee of the Jerusalem Municipality approved a budget of approximately 46 million shekels to plan settlement roads in “East Jerusalem,” according to a brief announcement by the municipality.


It was decided to double the size and number of beds, establish a psychiatric hospital complex, and open a large imaging center and new clinics in the fields of pain and addiction at the Herzog Medical Center, which was established on the lands of the village of Lifta, whose residents were displaced in 1948.


Udi Shaham Maimon, the official spokesman for the occupation municipality, said that the new planning will be distributed to 18 main sites from the north to the south of occupied Jerusalem, and will include the Issawiya intersection, the main road in the Wadi al-Joz neighborhood, and the road connecting the Wadi Qaddum neighborhood in the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The project will be implemented through the Moria Settlement Company and with investment from the Ministry of Transportation. This comes within the framework of the five-year plan of the occupation government, in which it claims to “reduce the gaps between the miserable infrastructure reality in East Jerusalem and the situation in West Jerusalem.”


The five-year plan includes investment in a variety of areas in “East Jerusalem,” including education, infrastructure, employment, cleaning, and development of public places, according to the occupation municipality’s announcement, which stated that the municipality has worked in recent years to invest unprecedented resources and attention to fill the many gaps. in the region after decades of neglect.
