The Council of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places in Jerusalem said that on Tuesday afternoon, a member of the occupation police pursued the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ghassan Al-Majali, as he entered Al-Aqsa Mosque, intercepted his way inside the courtyards of the mosque, and prevented him from entering under the pretext of lack of prior coordination.

The Endowments Council added in a statement, a copy of which was received by Safa Agency: “This comes in a very dangerous precedent, as it is customary for His Excellency the Jordanian Ambassador Al-Majali to come to visit Al-Aqsa Mosque periodically, and to enter with his companions directly, accompanied by Sheikh Azzam Al-Khatib, Director General of the Endowments Department.” Islamic affairs and the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which he usually receives from outside the Lions’ Gate, and he is well known to police officers and individuals.”

The Council warned of this dangerous escalation initiated by the occupation police, with instructions from its government, in an attempt to demonstrate the imposition of its sovereignty over the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, regardless of the existing historical, religious and legal status of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

He stressed in his statement that these measures imposed by the occupation government using the logic of force will not last, and will not change our firm belief that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is an Islamic mosque for Muslims alone, with an area of 144 dunums, with all its prayer halls, courtyards, and corridors above and below the ground, and those who were wronged will know which way to turn.
