The Israeli occupation Knesset agreed to approve a new law requiring the withdrawal of citizenship from prisoners inside and in occupied Jerusalem who receive money from the Palestinian Authority.

A statement issued by the Knesset said that the representatives agreed to “withdraw citizenship or residency from terrorist activists and receive compensation from the Palestinian Authority for committing terrorist acts,” as they put it.

The law, which was approved by a majority of 94 votes to 10 opposition votes, paves the way for the occupation to expel Palestinians from the eastern part of occupied East Jerusalem, which has been occupied by the Hebrew state since 1967.

The Palestinian Authority provides salaries to many families of those detained by the occupation, or liberated prisoners, including those involved in the killing of Israelis.

The law will affect hundreds of Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem and the Palestinians of the interior occupied in 1948, according to Danny Schoenhar, director of the legal department at the Israeli “HaMoked” human rights group.

The majority of Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem hold Israeli residency cards in the city instead of citizenship.

According to the new legislation, those covered by the law are expected to be expelled to “the areas of the Palestinian Authority, that is, the occupied West Bank or the Gaza Strip.”
