The General Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, called on citizens and printing press owners to review the Palestinian Fatwa House in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and in the Palestinian governorates, regarding the printing of Ramadan fasts, with the aim of verifying the times and dates.
Sheikh Hussein said: Preparing and printing fasting is a matter of devotion, related to two of the pillars of Islam, which are prayer and fasting, which requires taking into account the accuracy of the timings, so that Muslims perform their worship in the correct manner.
He stated that there are mistakes that some printing presses sometimes make unintentionally every year, calling on those concerned to be precise and careful when printing Ramadan fasts.
The Grand Mufti called for replacing the use of the word “imsak” before the dawn call to prayer with the phrase “first call to prayer,” so that the order of timings becomes as follows: first call to prayer, dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and isha, in order to avoid the confusion that some people fall into. They think that the call to prayer for fasting means abstaining from food and drink, and this is a mistake, as abstention occurs when the second dawn call to prayer begins, which begins the beginning of the time for dawn prayer.
He appealed to printing presses to adopt the timings of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, taking into account time differences in other cities, adding that citizens and printing press owners can view the daily prayer timing, which Dar Al-Iftaa has printed and published on its website.
