Yesterday evening, Sunday, the occupation municipality forced the Awida family to forcibly demolish six homes in the Bir Ayoub neighborhood in the town of Silwan in Jerusalem, displacing 60 individuals in the open.
Akram Awida told Beit Al-Maqdis News Network that the occupation municipality forced him and his brothers to demolish their homes themselves, after rejecting the appeal submitted by the family’s lawyer.
He explained that the occupation municipality in Jerusalem threatened the family members that if the self-demolition decision was not implemented, they would force the family to pay 300,000 shekels for the demolition costs.
He added that he and his brothers were forced to demolish the houses because they could not afford the cost of the demolition, stressing that they could not pay the building fine imposed on them by the municipality in the amount of 120 thousand shekels.
He explained that the family members include Akram, his brothers Jalal, Tariq, Ahmed, and Adel, his son Saleh, their wives and children, and they live in 6 houses, some of which are next to each other, and others are two-story, and their area is 300 square meters. It is worth noting that the houses were built more than 50 years ago.
