Outgoing Israeli Minister of Internal Security Omer Barlev warned on Friday that if there is a change in the status quo at the “Al-Aqsa Mosque,” a third intifada will occur.
Ynet website said Hebrew Quoting Bar-Lev: “If there is a change in the status quo at the Temple Mount, there will be an intifada, and this is clear to me and to the Zionist Prime Minister-designate Netanyahu,” accusing Netanyahu of often acting for his personal rather than national considerations.
Regarding transferring the powers of the “Border Guard” in the occupied West Bank to Ben Gvir, Barlev said: “This is not possible. This is occupied territory, and sovereignty there lies with the army and the Chief of Staff,” stressing that this will not succeed.
Barlev believed that after Ben Gvir takes office, he will learn that not all election slogans can be translated into actions on the ground.
It is noteworthy that these statements came at the end of Barlev’s tenure at the Ministry of Internal Security, where Barlev expressed his objection to the expected appointment of Otzma Yehudit head Ben Gvir as his replacement, warning Netanyahu that there would be an increase in “price tag” operations.
