On Monday morning, the people of Jabal al-Mukaber, south of occupied Jerusalem, confronted the bulldozers of the occupation municipality, preventing them from demolishing a commercial store and a sports club, and postponing the demolition process for 14 days.
The head of the Jabal Mukaber Defense Committee, lawyer Raed Bashir, said in press statements that the store owners and neighboring residents parked their cars in front of the store and sports club scheduled to be demolished, which prevented the occupation municipality bulldozers from arriving.
He explained that placing dozens of cars in front of shops led to the closure of the road in front of bulldozers and a traffic jam in the area, which enabled the lawyer for the owners of the threatened properties to obtain an order to postpone the demolition decision for 14 days.
Bashir pointed out that municipal employees asked the owners of the mobile phone store and the sports club in the Al-Salaa neighborhood in Jabal Al-Mukaber to evacuate them to carry out the demolition, but they refused.
He stated that there are several commercial stores in the Al-Salaa neighborhood that were built more than 15 years ago, and they are considered among the facilities threatened with demolition within the American Street Plan.
Bashir confirmed that this is the fourth time that the occupation municipality has failed to carry out a demolition in the town since the beginning of the year.
It is noteworthy that the area of the phone shop is 60 square meters, and the sports club is about 90 square meters.
