Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the operation of the martyr Abdel Muti Shabana in Jerusalem, which is considered one of the most prominent martyrdom operations that Jerusalem witnessed during the Second Palestinian Intifada (Al-Aqsa Intifada).
The Martyr Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for the operation and announced in a statement at the time that the operation came in the context of a response to a failed Zionist attempt to assassinate Dr. Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, on 6/10/2003, so the operation came one day after the attempt.
The perpetrator of the operation was the martyr Abdel Muti Shabana from the city of Hebron. He was 18 years old and was known for his religious commitment. He carried out the operation while taking his high school exams.
The operation was carried out by detonating an explosive belt inside a settler bus in the “Kilal” complex, west of Jerusalem, during which 17 Zionists were killed. This operation was one of the most important guerrilla operations that occupied Jerusalem witnessed.
