On this day in the year 2000, the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque witnessed a pivotal event that had repercussions in Jerusalem, Palestine, and the Arab world, when the then Zionist Minister of Agriculture, Ariel Sharon, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of the occupation forces.

In anticipation of the storming, thousands of Palestinians gathered in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa and were able to prevent the storming. The occupation border guards stormed Al-Aqsa the next day, and the Al-Aqsa Intifada erupted, lasting for about 5 years.

Many factors led to the outbreak of the uprising, including the political deadlock before the Palestinian negotiator in the path of a peaceful settlement, as the Zionist-American conditions became too much for the PLO and the Palestinian Authority, and the model case was a civilization in the experiences of the tunnel uprising and the Zionist withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

At the same time, the Zionist occupation has been working since the outbreak of the Intifada to increase the tightening of the noose around Jerusalem, by obstructing the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza from reaching Al-Aqsa, building the Jerusalem envelope wall, and other occupation measures.

Today marks the anniversary of the Intifada, and we are facing a new reality that proves that all rounds of confrontation with the occupation must have Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa as a primary detonating factor, and that Jerusalem has begun to suffer from a difficult reality that requires all forms of support for all forms of steadfastness and life in the occupied city.
