Today, Wednesday, May 1, is International Labor Day, which highlights the suffering of Palestinian workers and their exposure to many violations by the occupation forces, including arrests.
The General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions stated in a report that the occupation forces arrested 5,100 Palestinian workers from their workplaces in the West Bank, or during their return to Gaza during the year 2024.
The General Union indicated that more than 235,000 Palestinian workers inside the occupied territories stopped working for more than six months.
Unemployment rates are rising among Palestinian workers, in light of the restrictions imposed by the occupation forces on the people of the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, in addition to the siege that was imposed on the Gaza Strip before the devastating “Israeli” war that continues for the seventh month in a row.
The unemployment rate among Palestinian youth is high, compared to the academic qualifications they obtain from universities.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the number of Palestinian workers is approximately one million, 604,000 in the West Bank, 226,000 in the Gaza Strip, and 125,000 in the occupied interior.
