Immediately after the Sukkot holiday, dozens of families in the Al-Bustan neighborhood are at risk of losing their homes, as the Jerusalem Municipality intends to demolish seven homes in the neighborhood, in addition to the Al-Bustan-Silwan Association, which serves more than 1,000 people, including children, women and youth. This association provides cultural, sports, artistic and educational activities for all residents of the neighborhood, and it is also threatened with demolition.
The municipality informed 7 families, comprising 36 individuals, that it would carry out demolition orders immediately after the Eid holiday. It also issued a demolition order for the solidarity tent that residents had set up to express their solidarity with each other in the most difficult circumstances. This tent was an important place for meetings, solidarity events, and communication with diplomats and the public.
The Jerusalem Municipality is working with settler associations to implement the “King’s Garden” plan at the expense of Silwan residents, in an attempt to change the features and identity of the neighborhood. Instead of supporting the master plan prepared by the residents to regulate construction, the municipality continues its aggressive policies even in times of war!
