On Saturday evening, the Jerusalem municipality forced Jerusalemite Hani Awida to demolish his home in the Wadi Qaddum neighborhood of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, on the pretext of building without a permit.

Awida said in his interview with the correspondent: Jerusalem NewsHe was forced to carry out the demolition himself to avoid the hefty fines imposed by the occupation municipality when its crews carry out the demolition, despite having paid large fines over the past years and still suffering from accumulating debts.

He added that the 35-square-meter, two-room house had previously housed him and his wife, but that he was now homeless amid harsh economic conditions and a lack of alternative housing.

It's worth noting that the self-demolition policy imposed by the occupation municipality forces Jerusalemites to demolish their homes under threat of double the cost, as part of plans aimed at emptying the city of its original inhabitants.
