A human rights report revealed, yesterday, Saturday, a noticeable escalation in the policy of house demolition pursued by the occupation authorities in the city of Jerusalem, driven by pressure from parties of the ruling coalition in “Israel.”

The National Bureau for Defending Land and Resisting Settlements reported that the occupation authorities issued notices last Sunday to demolish all the houses in the village of Al-Nu'man, with the aim of annexing it to the borders of the city of Jerusalem.

The National Bureau explained that the occupation municipality crews stormed the village and distributed notices under the pretext of lack of a permit, even though the village includes 45 homes threatened with demolition.

According to the report, the city of Jerusalem witnessed 320 demolitions between October 2023 and November 2024, including more than 87 demolitions in the town of Silwan alone.

For its part, the Jerusalem Governorate indicated that more than 30,000 properties in the city are threatened with demolition, which threatens to displace tens of thousands of Jerusalemites. The governorate estimates that there are 22,000 homes and facilities threatened with demolition, including 7,000 in the town of Silwan.

The so-called “District Committee for Building and Planning” in the occupation municipality claims that all of these facilities are illegal, as many demolitions are carried out without prior notice or even waiting for “judicial” decisions.

The report confirmed that the town of Silwan, located south of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, is subject to intensive targeting, especially in the neighborhoods of Al-Bustan, Wadi Al-Rababa, and Wadi Qaddum, due to its proximity to Al-Aqsa Mosque, as the occupation authorities seek to implement settlement projects under the cover of the “Biblical Gardens” and the “King’s Garden,” which aims to change the demographic character of the area.

The demolitions were not limited to Jerusalem, but extended to include various parts of the West Bank, in an indication of the occupation's escalation of its expansionist plans.

According to what the network documented Jerusalem News in Its monthly report on the occupation's violations in the city of JerusalemThe number of demolitions in the city during the month of January reached 22, 16 of which were forced demolitions.
