Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, discussed with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken the serious consequences of Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a phone call with his American counterpart, Al-Safadi stressed the need to join efforts to preserve the existing historical and legal status in Jerusalem and its sanctities, and to prevent the inevitable escalation that will worsen if Israel’s violations of it continue.
He stressed that what the region needs is a real effort to find a political horizon to resolve the conflict on the basis of the “two-state solution,” and not more provocative and escalatory steps that attempt to impose extremist agendas and threaten to spark new cycles of violence.
Al-Safadi appreciated the clear position announced by the American administration regarding the necessity of respecting the historical and legal situation existing in the holy sites and the Hashemite custodianship over them, and the need to stop unilateral steps that push towards aggravation and undermine the two-state solution.
The two ministers stressed that Jordan and the United States will continue their joint efforts to relaunch serious and effective negotiations to achieve a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace, which constitutes a regional and international necessity on the basis of the two-state solution.
Blinken stressed that his country values the Kingdom's role and the efforts led by King Abdullah II to establish security, stability and peace.
