A Lebanese newspaper report discussed the reasons that prompted the Occupation Minister of Internal Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, to continue his provocation at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Lebanese newspaper “Al-Akhbar” indicated that these provocations are nothing more than a tactical nature, and come in order to cover up more dangerous Judaization measures, which include reaching steps on the ground, which it is afraid to touch for fear of a Palestinian reaction, and consequently regional and international reactions.

According to Al-Akhbar, Bin Ghafir’s repeated raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and his continuous threats come for these reasons:

First: Ben Gvir did not receive any opposition from the Israeli security establishment to his recent provocations, which can be attributed to its willingness to take a relatively calculated risk in confronting the Palestinians, and its increased “self-confidence” in the wake of the recent confrontation in Gaza.

Second: The above does not obscure the fact that the recent provocations remained tactical in nature, meaning that they would not have called for a major reaction that would have caused confrontations. But the just-ended round of fighting established rules of engagement short of “strategic actions,” allowing the two sides, with some level of risk, to move without attracting reactions, which Ben Gvir is skilled at exploiting well and to the maximum, in accordance with and serving his agenda.

Third: The most that Ben Gvir is looking forward to at the moment may be a video clip on social media, but that does not negate that any result that can be achieved will be the first building block on the path to taking additional Judaizing steps in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, such as raising Israeli flags inside, prayers in its courtyards, and others.

The “Al-Akhbar” report concludes that the continued provocations from the extreme right in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa will push the occupying state to build upon them, to work to change the existing situation in Al-Aqsa Mosque, unless it is met with a response and confrontation, at various levels.
