Al-Aqsa Mosque used to include 15 historical schools, of which only two remain: Riyad Al-Aqsa School and Al-Aqsa Sharia Secondary School, with its two branches for boys and girls.
The two schools are located on the northern side of Al-Aqsa Mosque, extending between Bab Al-Asbat and Bab Al-Hatta.
The two schools are affiliated with the Islamic Waqf Administration in Jerusalem, and teach the Palestinian curriculum, which makes their presence two blows to the occupation’s plans, which aim to Judaize education and impose complete Zionist control over Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Therefore, these schools are located in a jungle of occupation barriers at the gates of the Old City and the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which obstruct students’ access to their schools throughout the year.
It did not stop there. Since the beginning of this academic year 2023-2024, the Zionist occupation forces stationed at the gates of Al-Aqsa have been preventing the entry of Palestinian curriculum books, which include national content and the Palestinian flag.
On Monday, 9/11/2023, there was a dangerous escalation in schools, as 3 students from Al-Aqsa Kindergarten were brutally arrested while they were in Bab Bahta.
This escalation places the people of Jerusalem, and all those to whom Jerusalem means, in the responsibility of protecting and supporting these schools, as they are the remaining educational fortresses in the heart of the people of Jerusalem, and in their Al-Aqsa Mosque.
