Today, Monday, the “Israeli” Magistrate Court in occupied Jerusalem issued a decision ordering the eviction of the Diab family from their home in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in favor of the “Nahalat Shimon” settlement association.
The Family Court gave the family until July 15 to implement the eviction decision, with the possibility of objecting to the decision within 60 days.
The Diab family home is located in the Karm al-Jaouni neighborhood, which in 2021 witnessed the outbreak of a popular uprising that caused the outbreak of the Battle of Saif al-Quds after an attempt to evacuate Jerusalemite families from the neighborhood in conjunction with the escalation of attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The house threatened with eviction includes 3 residential units inhabited by 17 Jerusalemites, including women and children.
In an interview with the Beit Al-Maqdis News Agency, lawyer Saleh Diab described the owner of the house threatened with eviction from the occupation as a racist decision and said that he will continue all his attempts to preserve his right to remain in his home, and will resist any attempt by settlers to evict him from his home.”
Diab said: “The (Israeli) targeting of me by trying to evict me from my home is not without a dimension of revenge because of my continuous activity since 2021 in publicizing the issue of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and my organization of a weekly demonstration rejecting the Judaization of the neighborhood, and because of my direct response to the incursions of the two ministers of the occupation government: (Ben Ghafir) ) and (Smotrich), and the evacuation decision was preceded by incitement campaigns by settler groups on social media and the occupation authorities pursuing me for my livelihood.”
Diab added: “I was not surprised by the occupation’s decision to evacuate me from my home, and I was expecting it... My son called me and told me that news was being circulated on social media talking about an eviction decision issued by the occupation against me. I told my son that this decision is expected from a government that wants to end the presence of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and Gaza, and we are like the rest of the Palestinian people who are subjected to an extensive attack by the occupation in the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem.”
More than a hundred Palestinian families live in the Karam al-Jaouni area, in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood north of Jerusalem, residing on a plot of land with an area of 18 dunams, containing 29 buildings, which the occupation is seeking to evacuate in preparation for building a settlement neighborhood there.
